FRED: the platform for French teachers and learners [fr]
Do you teach French? Are you learning French? The FRED platform – www.franceducation.fr – offers you free access to a wide range of high-quality content: videos, texts, infographics, podcasts and more.
Easy access to online resources
The FRED platform, which is available in five languages (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish), provides easy access to more than 2,000 educational resources produced by public agencies (the Institut Français, the National Centre for Distance Education – CNED, Canopé, TV5MONDE, RFI, etc.) and key French EdTech stakeholders.
Led by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for National Education and Youth, the FRED project uses technologies developed by the French company Qwant.
Users can consult resources via a search engine and suggest content to be directly referenced on the platform, helping it evolve on an everyday basis. FRED also helps French language learners find teaching institutions and centres in their home countries through a geolocation functionality. Lastly, users can create accounts to access exclusive content to learn and teach French.

A measure adopted under the plan for the French language and multilingualism
The FRED platform is one of 33 measures adopted under the plan for the French language and multilingualism presented by the French President on 20 March 2018. By making online educational services more visible and accessible, FRED aims to boost the attractiveness of French around the world. Spreading and teaching the French language are two important vectors for France’s soft diplomacy. Today, French is the fifth most spoken language in the world, with around 275 million speakers. Between now and 2050, the number of French speakers should reach more than 700 million.
