French books awarded to Lake Ridge Elementary (Riverdale, GA) [fr]
Following a drawing contest organized by the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the United States in partnership with Libraries Without Borders, Lake Ridge Elementary School in Riverdale, Georgia was awarded 300 new books, in French, for its immersion program.
Despite delivery delays due to the public health situation and school closures, the books arrived at Lake Ridge Elementary just in time for the back-to-school period. The books will be divided between classrooms and the library, providing new reading options for students as soon as in-class learning returns. Until then, teachers will read the stories to students during virtual classroom reading periods.
A total of ten bilingual schools across the country have benefited from the 3,000 books from Libraries Without Borders. This partnership has helped to alleviate one of the major difficulties in the development of immersion programs: student access to authentic, diverse and varied resources.
