Round-table on climate change and humanitarian aid [fr]

France-Atlanta 2015 will host a roundtable discussion on how the humanitarian community is confronting issues related to climate change on October 28, 2015 at Emory University.

Climate change is an aggravating factor of humanitarian crises that poses significant challenges for government and non-government humanitarian actors alike. In anticipation of the UN global conference on climate change (COP21) that will be held in Paris in December 2015, the 6th France-Atlanta: Together Towards Innovation will host a roundtable discussion on “Climate Change and Humanitarian Aid: local and global stakes”. The panel will include representatives from CARE, Action Against Hunger, Groupe U.R.D., and Emory University who will address key questions about what is at stake for the humanitarian community.

“France-Atlanta’s round table on climate change points to the importance of international cooperation in tackling the complex and urgent challenges of our time. Joint efforts by humanitarian organizations, policy makers, scientists and educators are critical to reducing the negative impacts of climate hazards on vulnerable communities. These kinds of cross-sectoral, collaborative approaches are central to our Master’s in Development Practice vision, and this event is a wonderful affirmation of the value of such training,” said Dr. Carla Roncoli, Associate Director, Master’s in Development Practice at Emory.

JPEG Drawing on experiences of community-based climate adaptation and global efforts towards climate change mitigation, panellists will discuss how their respective organizations are promoting practices and advocating for policies to prevent climate-induced humanitarian crises and what they hope COP21 will achieve in terms of these efforts to save lives.

This event, organized in partnership with Emory’s Laney Graduate School, Climate@Emory and CARE’s Poverty, Environment, and Climate Change Network (PECCN), is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

When : October 28, 2015 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Where : Emory University’s Mathematics and Sciences Center Auditorium (Room E208, 400 Dowman Drive, Atlanta, GA 30332).
