From the desk of the Consul General- December 2016 [fr]

Dear French and American friends,

November 11 was a particularly moving moment for the French community in the U.S. Southeast : a Legion of Honor ceremony, organized at the Main Library in Nashville by the Consulate General and our honorary consul Amélie de Gaulle, reminded us all how much France and Europe are indebted to the American soldiers who fought on our continent. Veterans from Tennessee, Alabama, or Mississippi— it was with fervor, but also great modesty that they remembered their youth and their deep friendship for France. Even further back in time, it was with emotion that I greeted the widow of an American veteran of WWI, Katie Cobb (106 years old), in Jackson, TN. The Republic can never thank enough these men and women who bravely risked, and even gave their lives to the service of our common values.

In this period of intense political activity, it was with great interest that I met with governors Nikki Haley— congratulations for this nomination!— and Nathan Deal. France and the U.S., forever allies on the international stage, face challenges now more than ever in the form of terrorism and radicalization: on the occasion of the anniversary of November 13 in Paris, this was what I wanted to remind students of Georgia Tech or Oglethorpe during my guest speaking engagements.
