France-Atlanta Science Series: 1- Proteins of the Future [fr]

On Thursday, October 28, the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States in partnership with the French-American Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta hosted the virtual event "Proteins of the Future".

This event, which is part of the France-Atlanta annual event series, discussed many important topics including alternative proteins’ link to sustainability, the perception and preconceptions associated with them and transatlantic perspectives.

The event began with a presentation by Jérémie Prouteau of DigitalFoodLab, a French FoodTech insight and strategy consultancy. His presentation addressed why there is a need for alternative proteins and all of the different alternatives that are currently being developed – everything from plant-based to air protein. We then had a panel discussion hosted by Oriane Solente, the research and development manager at FPL Food, and that featured three speakers: Akissi Stokes, the co-founder of WunderGrub (an Atlanta based startup which focuses on insect proteins), Sean Warner, the co-founder of GrubblyFarms (an Atlanta based startup which also focuses on insect proteins) and Didier Rémond, the Deputy Director of the Human Nutrition Unit at INRAE and a specialist on plant-based proteins. The panel explored many important questions: Why did you enter this field? How can these alternative proteins address environmental concerns? Are transatlantic collaborations possible in the future?

Thank you to our speakers and all who watched the event.
