The 12th edition of France-Atlanta is starting on October 15!

France-Atlanta is an annual event series, co-founded by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and the Georgia Institute of Technology, designed to foster transatlantic cooperation centered on innovation. 

We are also thrilled to invite you on October 21 to the official launch of Villa Albertine, France’s new cultural institution that’s reinventing artists' residencies.

FRANCE-ATLANTA 2021

Sunday, October 17 - 3pm EST | Atlanta Contemporary - In person event

France-Atlanta is thrilled to collaborate with ELEVATE and Atlanta Contemporary to present “A Dance, Reunited.” A film screening will be followed by a panel discussion and a dance performance by Indya Childs.

The film Letters from the Continent was conceived and shot in May and June 2020 and features 21 artists from Cape Town, Dakar, Lagos, Maputo, Moroni, Tunis and other cities. Filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, it reflects on how, for many people, there has always been some sort of crisis – a health, political or, above all, economic crisis – and how the handling of such a crisis can make people everyday heroes.

The specific contexts and circumstances of their origins and their continuing evolution offer lessons and inspiration to all of us: students, building industry professionals, activists and concerned citizens.

Professional musicians use tools to be creative, but there are even more amateurs who enjoy being creative, albeit in casual ways. During this event, we will explore whether digital and other systems can be designed to help these casual users tap into their creative sides. In addition, we will discuss the design of creativity-augmentation systems that rely on computational creativity.

Transcendances by Charline Effah - October 27, 12:00 pm EST - Online

Francophone Crossings brings together the unique and creative voices of Fabienne Kanor (Martinique) and Charline Effah (Gabon) for a two-part program. 

The first part of the program features an hour with Charline Effah that she has entitled Transcendances. It comprises a 20-minute video (Bruissement des ailes brisés) shot in her native Gabon. The video will be followed by her reading and discussion of excerpts of her novels N’être and La danse de Pilar which demonstrate that women’s words are tools of resilience and overcoming

Holding much promise in terms of increased productivity, efficiency and quality time, AI programs and algorithms could function as an assistant, a peer, a manager or even as a friend. Indeed, they might be so revolutionary that no one, regardless of whether they are consumers, citizens, patients, operators or stakeholders, will remain unaffected.

Corps à Coeur by Fabienne Kanor - November 3 - 12:00pm EST - Online

Francophone Crossings brings together the unique and creative voices of Fabienne Kanor (Martinique) and Charline Effah (Gabon) for a two-part program. 

The second part of the program features Fabienne Kanor that she has entitled, Corps à Coeur. Kanor will begin her hour-long program by sharing her highly innovative and moving performance piece, Corps de l’histoire, followed by a talk on her haunting literary work, Humus, in which women’s voices are prominent in the construction of a collective memory of slavery.

This event presents three movies from the 2021 Young French Cinema program as well as a virtual roundtable discussion with the filmmakers. All three films were created by women writer-directors and feature characters from outside of France. À coeur battant (“The End of Love” by Keren Ben Rafael) is set in France and Israel; Sous le ciel d’Alice (“The Skies of Lebanon” by Chloé Mazlo) takes place in Beirut; and Si le vent tombe (“Should the Wind Drop” by Nora Martirosyan) follows a French inspector in Nagorno-Karabakh. The roundtable discussion will focus on storytelling, gender and French culture beyond France’s borders.

We’re thrilled to invite you to the official launch of Villa Albertine, France’s new cultural institution that’s reinventing artists' residencies.

Anchored in 10 cities across the United States, Villa Albertine will welcome 80 creators in its inaugural season, with programs tailored to each resident's needs. We're kicking off the season with a special virtual gathering where you'll get to meet the residents and learn about their work firsthand!

Tune in a noon ET on October 21 for a fast-paced panorama of conversations featuring Ambassador of France to the US Philippe Étienne; Villa Albertine Director Gaëtan Bruel; Director of the National Gallery Kaywin Feldman; and other special guests! A New French Cinema Program On American Campuses

We are thrilled to introduce our new French Cinema program on Campus: ALBERTINE CINEMATHEQUE.

ALBERTINE CINEMATHEQUE is a program of Villa Albertine and FACE Foundation, which aims to present recently released high profile independent French films on US campuses. By introducing college students to French films through their varied forms, our program is nurturing an enduring love for a very diverse and evolving cinema.

CinéSchool is a new film program for young audience produced by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the FACE Foundation. It aims to broaden the availability of French and French-speaking cinema for young audiences to schools and students across the U.S.

With free screenings adapted for various age groups —from elementary school to high school—, CinéSchool seeks to offer young people of all backgrounds the opportunity to see curated French language content, and to become a dynamic resource for French speakers and French learners in the U.S.

The Center for French and Francophone Studies of Duke University presents Poetry, a Weapon Loaded with Future, a Slam Performance by the Collective On a Slamé sur la lune.

On a Slamé sur la Lune is a collective of poets dedicated to creating dialogue between imaginaries and cultures, to democratizing literature under its various forms, and to making art accessible to a wide range of audiences.

This event will be a multilingual slam in French, English, and Haitian creole.
