A French take on Arts and Mathematics at the Atlanta Science Festival [fr]

From March 19-26, the Atlanta Science Festival will be held in Atlanta, bringing together more than a hundred scientific events over the week-long celebration of Science.

For this third edition, the scientific office of the French Consulate in Atlanta, in partnership with the Fernbank Science Center, is organizing a photographic exhibit and a Science Café blending France’s culture of mathematical excellence with an artistic touch.

Through the eyes of French photographer Vincent Moncorgé, a photography exhibit will offer you the unique opportunity to take a look at the day-to-day lives of researchers in mathematics at the Henri Poincaré Institute, an internationally-leading French institution in mathematics in Paris and to explore its collection of strange physical models, used to visualize mathematical concepts. This photography exhibit will be on display at the Fernbank Science Center from March 19 to March 26.

In conjunction with this exhibit, a Science Café lecture on “Mathematical shapes in Nature” with French researcher Dr Rémi Molinier, will take place on Friday, March 25 at 6:30pm in the Planetarium of the Fernbank Science Center. Dr Rémi Molinier is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Kansas State University in Mathematics and he has been involved for several years in scientific mediation activities with the French association Science Ouverte to share his passion for mathematical curiosities and to promote a more interactive and accessible vision of Mathematics.

The lecture and exhibit are free.

WHEN: Lecture: Friday, March 25th. Reception at 6:30pm, lecture at 7pm.
Exhibit: Saturday, March 19th to Saturday, March 26th. During the Fernbank Science Center opening hours
WHERE: Fernbank Science Center, 156 Heaton Park Dr., Atlanta, GA 30307

This scientific project centered on French excellence in Mathematics is presented in a partnership with the Office for Science and Technology at the French Consulate in Atlanta, the Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta, the French scientific association Science Ouverte (through Dr Molinier’s lecture) and French photographer Vincent Moncorgé.
